The day I tried my first BabeRuth

The day I tried my first BabeRuth

So today I learned that the candy BabyRuth was not named exactly after the famous baseball player, Babe Ruth. But it doesn’t matter anymore because I think it needs to be renamed to “Payday covered in chocolate” because that’s what it really is.

Anyway, last day in Newspapers2 and I can’t believe the end of the week is already here. I have probably consumed more candy in the past four days than I do all of October and I am still waiting for that yoga lesson. But I must admit, what I learned this week is much more exciting and invigorating than any yoga lesson so with that, I will happily sign off and bid Newspapers2 adu. Adu!

My first Podcast EVER!!

My first Podcast EVER!!

It is definitely weird hearing my own voice played back to me! But that is what we did today and it was interesting. I had always thought it took a crazy amount of work to create videos, podcasts, slideshows etc. and it does, but not as much as I expected. I could easily take these tools back to El Toro HS and incorporate it on the newspaper website.  All I need is a little camera/recorder and I’ll be set! Check it out! http://www.newspapers2online.com/opinion/2011/08/11/the-mmjk-podcast-2/

The Walter Pyramid…part 2

The Walter Pyramid…part 2

After these past two days, I feel like I can probably be a tour guide for the Walter Pyramid here at CSULB. Not only did I spend half the day walking around it and getting video footage for it on Tuesday, but I spent half of Wednesday investigating it’s history and hidden qualities. Who would’ve guessed that this iconic gym has also been the grounds for a Black Eyed Peas concert and a movie set. You want to see my second product featuring this U.S. wonder? Here you go! http://www.multimediastories.org/newspapers2/Walter_Pyramid/index.html

And if that’s not enough for you, check out the Event Manager who dwells up in his office tucked away within the pyramids walls…Not to seem morbid, but it felt a little like walking into an ancient tomb. His office was at the end of this windy, gray hallway that you can’t see the end of… The architects definitely took the pyramid theme to the extreme on this one:) http://www.multimediastories.org/newspapers2/Cameron_Ungar/index.html

Journalism on camera

Journalism on camera

Today’s assignment was definitely something I didn’t expect to do in a Web class…I made a movie! Not Walt Disney quality or anything but it is definitely worth watching ;)    I’m the anchor/reporter person.. I have never done a piece like this..I’m so much more comfortable with pen and paper or even keyboard and computer. But today, I was stripped of my comfort blanket and forced to speak, not write, what I wanted to report. And of course how can I forget to mention the wonderful people I got to work with who reported, filmed, and came up with tons of great ideas for our mini masterpiece!

It wasn’t too torturous or anything… in fact I really enjoyed it! It definitely inspired me to bring this reporting technique back to my staff at El Toro. Cannot wait!

My first day at Newspapers2

My first day at Newspapers2

So far the memories of this class will be trademarked with chocolate smeared fingers and the yoga exercises written mysteriously on the board. Just when I thought I was attending a normal, journalism class, I was wrong yet again. The class instructor, none other than the enthusiastic, candy bearing Jeff who is also the culprit to my chocolate sticky fingers. Thanks! But more importantly, he disclosed to us that unfortunately, those yoga exercises on the board, were not meant for us. And neither were several other items anonymously listed on the white board including breakfast (too bad), guitars (in my dreams), and drunk girls (I take no part!). So, once these words were firmly washed down with the scruffy dry eraser, class finally began for real. But really, its been fun, and I can’t wait to see what new and invigorating words show up on the board tomorrow.
